CT20B...

Postby Dell'Orto » Sat Apr 16, 2005 8:43 pm

Ok, so I finally got around to putting the CT20B in my car...oil and water lines - sweet, bolt up nice.
Actuator and boost controller lines - yup, sweet, just like before. Manifold bolts on sweet as.
I go to do up the turbo hanger bolt - wtf? The bolt hole is about 20mm away from the turbo hanger, and there is bugger all movement.
Have I stuffed something up, or do you need to use a gen 3 turbo hanger to make the CT20B work with the Gen 2 motors??

Think I have it sorted - apparently when you go to a CT20b you just throw the hanger away :D

Bit less weight I guess!

I'd still recommend having a hanger fabricated up to stop excess stress being put on the manifold studs etc....

castings can move when there very hot so in time with no support you may find it gets a bit droopy :D
this will esculate any small cracks and defects in the casting and you might find you will also end up with that oh so annoying "tick-tick" :D

:D

What did you use with your new turbo?

Same as before, still not running  Give it a few more weeks/months :D

I still have the hanger underneath it, just no bolt through it. Stupid monkeys who did the last turbo rounded off one of the nuts, so I pretty much have to leave it on

Not even the Gen3 turbo -> block bracket works or I would've sent it to you as well as the turbo, the positioning of the turbo via the exhaust manifold must be different as the exhaust housing itself is physically identical to the CT26
Even with a braced DP you will probably be more likely to crack your manifold as the pair still weigh quit a bit but Gen2 manifolds are cheap and easy to come by so don't worry too much.

Oh really? Stink :( Ah well, maybe I'll need to coerce my downpipe builder into making me a custom manifold too [/hint]
