yes its cams but not what some people think it is!
v-tec is a 16 valve engine and always will be. vtec kicks in at a set rpm only!!. the intake cam looks alot like a 4age 20valve cam as both have the same amount of lobes 12 of them. so its 3 lobes per pot(-2 exaust) . however when vtec is off it uses the outer two like any normal 16valve engine. but when vtec is on it switches to the middle crazy lobe(higher lift and duration) so its like having three cam shafts in your engine.
blacktop VVT is nothing like vtec, its more to do with cam timing then anything else. it advances/retards(matt daimon) the cam timing. they are 20 valve engines so have more lobes but always uses them all.
vvt comes onto play only when the engine feels like it

right temp. throttle position, ect ect..
mivec (shrug shrug) i have no idea what the hell is going on in there

not really into them
