silvertop vs blacktop intake gaskets

Postby Mr Revhead » Sun Jan 01, 2006 4:21 pm

anyone ever compared the two?

swapping my preface lift TBs for face lift ones and i wanna know how close the blacktop one is to fitting the silvertop.

silly toyota only have one gasket for the silvertops and they are the same shape as the prefacelift manifold.

just wondering if anyones compared before

are we talking about the silvers mounting to the inlet verses the black tops then yes both gaskets are different or you talking about inlet manifolds

i have both pre and post facelift gaskets down at the workshop, could photograph the post facelift on the head if you want.

It lines up with the head pretty well, tho the cutout for the injector (top of the teardrop) is bigger on the gasket than on the head.

Unfortunately i only have a preface lift manifold so i'm busy taking that out to matchup with the head and gasket.

interesting......

got a facelift 20v here, and the gasket on that matches the ports on the faceleft TBs...... but there is only one part number listed on the EPC.
think ill have to check for supercessions at work on wednesday.
in the mean time i can use the facelift gasket.

I had both prefacelift and facelift 20v, they have different gaskets. Also ACL sells a gasket kit which includes facelift gasket in it (I know because I've bought one a while ago).

the prefacelift intake gasket is a horrible thing.. just like the prefacelift intake manifold. very much an upside down T shape port. stick that in your engine and your flow will be shite.

I think prefacelift gasket/manifold is very similar in shape to small port 16v 4age... In fact I have a small theory about this.. that originally toyota designed quads for 16v then they decieded to go audi way....

btw even how horroble prefacelift manifold looks, changing it did not make much diffrenece in dyno results (in fact that little increase I could account for Mine's ECU)...

yeah i dont expect and huge gains, certainly nothing the butt dyno will pick up, except maybe for some throttle response or less flat spots

but i figure if i do every little thing i can to get half a hp and improve efficency etc overall itll make a difference.

it certainly wont hurt and gives me a reason to pull my car apart :D
