No Air Filter - What sort of damage?

Postby cespenar » Fri Feb 24, 2006 12:49 pm

Well I just replaced my piece of crap HKS air intake (came with the car when it was imported 3 years ago as previous owner stated) with an Apexi Power Intake system, and I discovered that the HKS sponge had all bunched up underneath where you couldn't see and had left a big hole where unfiltered air could get into the engine. So just wndering what sort of damage, if any, would I be looking at? It's a 2JZ-GE Supra and it still runs fine, and I assume that after 3 years of HKS damage if anything were to break it would have done so already, but I don't know if there would be any built up deposits of whatever on the inside or not, and what the best way to clean it out would be. Cheers.

If you've done regular oil changes, it probably wont have done too much. You're lucky its not a GTE, as those shithouse filters dust the compressor wheels :?
1988 KE70 Wagon - Slowly rusting
1990 NA6 MX-5 - because reasons
2018 Ranger - Because workcar
1997 FD3S RX-7 Type R - all brap, all the time
OMG so shiny!

It has been regularly serviced and doesn't seem to burn oil, doesn't blow smoke either *breathes sigh of relief* so I should be OK then, thanks guys. Seems criminal how such poor air filters are allowed to be sold
