Battery, which one to get?

Postby Inane » Mon Mar 06, 2006 1:31 pm

ok its come that time where my current car battery is due for retirement,
(at least it better be cos the battery is dying that the batt is going flat after 4 hours ish- I really CBF dealing with a new alternator or an earthing problem right now)

What I want to know is what batteries do people recommend?

the battery I currently have is much smaller than other batteries people seem to have, however up until now it has worked flawlessly it wasnt new when I got the car (came with it from japan) and its been in the caldina for over 70,000 k's since I got it.

so I want a decent reliable small form factor battery that is preferably semi-sealed, and reasonably easy to get (better yet one with a charge indicator light as well)

What are peoples recommendations?

If money is not problem get either Optima or Excide Spiral Cell bettery, I have Optima's (yellow top 1000CA one) in both of my cars and do they crank!
Actually after 12 month off road without recharging it actually started the car like fresh.

No need for an Optima if it just for a car, (ie. no 5kw stero to run) any branded batterey should be fine, try get one with a 3year warrenty.

i got an AC Delco one from the battery shop, about 2 doors away from supercheap in the hutt, Sealed with the indicator gauge, qute small, cost $116 inc GSt for memory with 2 year warranty
seems to do fine, unless you are running 10,000 subs the optima ones etc seem like a bit of an overkill
