dont bother with the 3s, it's cheaper and easier to go 1UZ

be different and drop a 1JZ or 2JZ into it
I'll fit, you just need to mount the radiator on the front side of the rad support panel, I did the measurements, its either that or chop some firewall.

A Cammy 1JZGE with 6 50mm TB's and equal length extractors would look right at home under the bonnet........

Hi.
It certainly is possible to do this. I would rate it as a medium difficulty mission (on the VVEGA scale of mechanical and fabrication difficulty :)). Quite a few people have done this before.
Gearbox
- Your AE85 has a K50 gearbox, the torque from a 3sgte will turn the insides into metal filings within 3 hours (or even less)
- AE86's have a T50 gearbox, there are bellhousings for the T50 that will suit the S series motors (I have a spare bellhousing). However the T50 gearbox will turn into metal filings in about 3 days.
- find any W55/W57/W58 gearbox. Find a C, S or Y bellhousing for the gearbox. It won't break for 3 years (at least!!!) Bellhousing... $75ish gearbox... from free up to $350 for W55, W57 $350 up to $550, W58 $450 up...

Motor
- Try to find a 3sgte in a damaged car. That way you will have everything you need to make the engine go. Computer, loom, engine, turbo, bolts, brackets.... about a million little things that are a real bugger to find because you don't know what they look like if you don't have them!!!

LSD
- The AE86 rear axle with disk brakes will bolt into your AE85 (except maybe for the swaybar). There are LSDs available that will bolt into the AE86 diff... probably looking at $500 to $800 for the axle if you can find one and $1000 for the LSD. With a 3sgte and some hard driving you will turn the axle into metal filings!
I would recommend talking to the drifter dudes (try Garage Dori website) and follow their advice as to setting up a unbreakable hilux lsd axle in your AE85. Cost.... less than $1000 I'm sure, maybe cheaper!

Homework - look up Phil Bradshaw's website where he was putting a 3sgte into a AE86. Search here on Toyspeed for C, S and Y bellhousings (I have made several posts about this). Yeah do lots of searches here on toyspeed as well as the web in general.

Go do it!

I used to think that the orange and green tictacs gave you special powers. The orange ones would make you stronger and the green ones would make you faster. So i used to eat some green ones and run around my lounge as fast as i could, then eat the orange ones and try to pick up the sofa. I wish it were true!
