cheaper st205 suspension

Postby TRDmod » Sun Jun 18, 2006 6:02 pm

I have been looking into suspension, i almost decided on trd lowering springs and stanard brandnew shocks for my car. butr.... this probably wont be stiff enough to really have any benefits?? for grip?

anyone kmnow and experienced cheaper alternative to trd, i got quoted jsut shy 2500 for damping adjustables and lowering springs

i want stiffer shocks, but not the stiff price
Have you got the hots? for what's in the box with the dots? ..... 0800 30 40 50

as i knwo only tein, TRD, cusco, kyb, and koni have a set of suspension for st205.

tein super stree is around 4600 a set.
TRD and cusco will be over 3G. (approx)
i dunno abt koni and kyb.

there is a set on trademe called NEX is around 1G, but is not really a super struct suspension, and u will need to do some work for it to fit ur car.

for my case, i've just use the standard suspension with the TEIN lowered spring ($360). i might upgrade to tein suspension later on.

hope that help.

yes i m sure of the price, coz i've ask for a quote for my gt4 st205.

i had the same expression when i first heard the price, thats why i m planing to leave the suspension as it is.

ST205 is on the super struct, even the super street will cost $4600 for a set while it may cost only 2G for other cars.

Factory struts are made for Toyota by KYB and are readily available from Mr Revhead. Coupled with a set of TRD springs, I am more than happy with the suspension set-up (along with a few other tweeks).
If you do go down the coilover set-up, remember to budget and extra $300 or so for certification. There is a train of thought that TRD coilovers don't need rto be certed as they are OE Toyota parts, but not sure if this has actually been put to the test.

Add freight and customs fees and you won't save much for a product the local agents are unlikely to honour the warranty on.

The national distributor will be obligated to honour the products warranty. If a problem arose with the product, I would contact TEIN directly, who would than more than likely direct you to their distributor.

THe shipping will be minimal, air freight will be $200 or less.

Unless you have imported stuff before, customs will not charge you a thing.

As the Tui saying goes "Yeah, Right!".Pretty much guarantee that you will get hit by customs when importing something like shocks. You may get lucky and they'll slip through unnoticed. If that happens, go and buy a lottery ticket straight away

People = dumb

On small items, say an S-AFC or something, they normally get through fine. Once you step up to the likes of turbos, suspension etc, more and more lately people are being pinged.

Always cracks me up... I'll give a quote for say, a turbo. Once they tell me to f-off cause its heaps cheaper out of aussie, I ignore it. A couple weeks later they normally come back to buy it from me anyway, once they get a price for shipping, GST, etc etc... Ends up costing the same or more most of the time.

Some things though, it is worth getting yourself - but we get a lot of people who are happy to pay overheads to us (or whoever) just so they don't have to deal with any of the headaches.

Plus if it breaks, you just cry to whoever sold it to you - then THEY have to go back and forth trying to sort out the warranty for you

Anything over $300 get you a GST charge from customs, no matter if you have imported anything before or not.
