How far is normal?

Postby RS13 » Mon Aug 21, 2006 8:01 pm

Hi

I'm down to 1/4 tank of gas in my AE92, and I've only done 244kms. I notice that when I filled it (yes, filled, I always squirt fuel right up to the nozzel when I fill, and yes, sometimes it does slosh down the side of the car when I drive away!) the gauge only went up to just past 3/4.. hmm.

Its' a bog standard 4AGE AE92, and I occasionally drive it harder than I should, not really "thrashing" it though.. what kind of range should I expect from a full tank? Is it abnormally thirsty, or going by the gauge, would I possibly have a 1/4 tank when indicating empty? Would it be the sender or the gauge?

also telling us how many litres went in when it was low would be useful too.

I get between 8-12kms/l in my ae101 depending on how i drive it.

My mate with an ae92 also has a screwed fuel gauge.... it will not go below half. Mayb a common fault in ae92s?

Yeah, I think thats' probably the best course of action. I'm gonna get a fuel can tomorrow. :)

or fill it up, drive for 100kms and then fill up again

that way you know how many litres it takes to do 100kms and you can work it out from there ;)

I once ran the empty light for about 85ks of non granny driving... so that is quite a decent chunk of milage that most people would never try to get.

And yes, i know its not the best for the car to run it that low

I wish there was another way to check the fuel level other than the unreliable gauge. Oh well. :)

Ha 104.3 in my old 101 and rolled into the gas station having just run out of gas, petrol light came on the day before pay day and i still had to get to work and back then to the gas station which was exactly 104.3 k's :)
Don't recomend trying it unless the last .3k is down hill tho

I get just under 300kms in my AW with about 33 litres. And it doesn't matter how I drive! :(
Motorsport is like sex. You could take it to track and have a long, enjoyable session, or you could take it to the strip and get it over with in less than 20 seconds.

Could be the float on the end of the arm thing.

I had a car that did that, the float filled with fuel and just sort of flopped around. It would read just above 2/3's when full and anything less than half a tank and it would just show a random amount of fuel.
