6Speed Gear box - recon or second hand

Postby BZR4AGE » Sat Aug 26, 2006 4:33 pm

Hi there guys, I've just got my car back on Friday.....and the workshop told me the gearbox needs some attention. Actually the problem started even before i went to tune my car.

Is VERY HARD to shift to second gear, and third syncro is stuff. When it is cold, its make a crunching noise, but after a while when the engine is warmer, the problem seems to go away.
After the engine was done, it vibrates more than factory. I heard somewhere that a engine damper may solve the gearbox problem slighty, (but ofcoz not the crunching noise)

My question is, 1) would a engine damper help? 2) should I recon the gearbox, or try to get a second hand one. becoz I went to Kasper transmission, they test drove the car, and said "most of the syncros are out of place".

Anyone know how much a new set of gears would cost. i saw a while back someone on trademe selling a broken gearbox said something abt $800 for all the gears ex-japan. is that right??

or am I better off getting a second hand 6 speed??

And anyone recommendation to where to fix it??? I have some pretty bad experince with many gearbox shops. I am in auckland

Thanks in advance :P

rebuild it, you would pay 1k+ for another 6speed, that has 80k+? km onit... if its only syncros as it sounds like... get them fixed a 0km box is going to last longer even if it costs around the same
