Resonator

Hey all,

I am looking at getting a resonator to quieten down my levin a bit. I don't really know much about them - I understand how they work etc through looking on the net. I still have no idea what to look for when buying one though.

Is anyone able to give some advice on what to look for when buying one (length, sizing etc), materials used, and pricing/where to get one from

If paying, just go into local exhaust shop and tell them what you want.

On my old car I had 2 resonators and a straight thru muffler on the back. Had to have 2 resonators as I originally had one with the muffler, but when I changed the exhaust headers it developed a wicked (horrible) rattle at some revs, so I got another one. Sounded like I had a tin can rattling in there somewhere (like alot of people seem to accept as ok, $&#$% knows why).
The way I found which resonator to buy is I asked the exhaust place to stick one in the end of the exhaust when I moved through the rev range, gave a pretty good indication of what the sound was going to be. They then installed it, and it sounded basically the same as the test, but a bit better even.

So you dont as such need to figure out before hand what size etc you want, just jam one in your exhaust (assuming you have a single pipe out the back).

Hope that is of some help. Pretty rangi, but it worked for me.

Dont buy a hot dog shaped Coby one, they dont do jack shit in quieting your exhaust down or removing the 'buzz', didnt on my GTZ anyway, and I had 3 of them

Go to Chase or find someone that sells them (Repco maybe) and buy an oval shaped resonator in the longest size they have (probably around 14-18 inches) they are very good and will quieten down and remove the buzz/tinniness better than a coby will.

Some people also say to get a louvred resonator over a perforated one but in my experience they do the same job

Brothers going to be fitting it - but don't see him overly often so hard to get advice from him.


Thanks for all the advice, will go down to repco or something similar and have a look at what they have, and prices etc.
