This obviously will work best if you have different types of tyres front and back.
flygt4 wrote:i had a hanger bearing sieze on mine and it made a nasty racket. pretty much what you describe.
started as a quiet vibration, over time and at at higher speeds it got louder and turned into a bearing noise, kind of like a hum/whirr/whine.![]()
sounds like youve done what i did, and narrowed it down to being related to road speed, and not engine rpm.
theres not that many rotating components that will relate to road speed only, wheel bearings and hanger bearings being the obvious and most likely ones.
id be leaning towards a new driveshaft hanger bearing from what you describe. they are quite common to wear out. can you hear where the noise is coming from? should sound like its coming from towards the centre back of the block.

I've noticed in the past 6 months, I've starting selling 100 series corolla rear hubs............
IH8TEC wrote:like you say, axle stands put it in drive, but only like 5th gear to keep engine noise down, and get the wheels turning and have a listen, than should soon tell you if it's hanger bearing, AND whether it's front or back
if i'm around tomorrow i'll walk down the hallway and give you a hand, bu may go to drags depending on weather.
