Exhaust WOF Issue.

Postby Stupra » Tue Jan 16, 2007 8:20 am

Recently i bought a 93 Supra with a big single turbo and 3.5" HKS exhaust system.
I failed a WOF on it recently and need to quiten it down a bit.

Apparently pit stop who i took it to initially do not have resonators in 3.5" size and dont really want to hack up the expensive exhaust which is fair enough. Sadly though I have no option but to add something in there or have the rear section replaced temporarily as it is has a 4 bolt flange which can be removed easy enough.

Anyone have any suggestions where i can find a 3.5" muffler / resonator??
Or preferably fabricate a temporary rear section with a quiter muffler?
Pit stop cannot find a flange apparently so anyones advice from here would be appreciated greatly! :-)

From a very quick search here's one for 3".

I'm sure if you had a decent search you'd be able to track a 3.5" down somewhere...

I can do a 3.5", but it is a truck muffler. Not massivly big (178mm outer diameter, 500m length)

Probably not what your looking for.

How loud it is? If it is not overly loud, you could try to go to friendlier WOF inspector...

get a bit of sheat metal the same size as the flange put the 4 mounting holes in it & then put a 1-1/2" hole in it

iv been doing this on my supra for the last 2 warrents it makes it quiter by a lot but also makes it a guttless sack

Brilliant idea!! before anything else, im going to try that.
Otherwise ill shop around for WOF shops.

I had the WOF done at my previous job so they know me all good and usually dont worry about much. But i guess its just too loud for them Pussys!

Cheers.

$400 doesn't cover much, especially if tires or labour is involved, though they don't do any work so what exactly needed doing?

Our local VTNZ station aren't picky bastards so my mate goes there before he sells a car, people think there's more merit to the fact it passes at VTNZ.

Are you running a high flow catalytic converter in this setup ?

A cat , while a bit costly , and at the sacrafice of a few HP will effectively quieten down an exhaust system also - Modern cats dont sacrafice much though these days - technologys improved alot

Youll also make all the birds bees and butterflies happy by making less emissions
