What to change while changing clutch.

Postby Cicak » Thu May 10, 2007 5:29 pm

The current clutch is going to kick the bucket soon, as it's not very grippy anymore. I will be changing my clutch to a TRD clutch from mr revhead :D. But was wondering if i needed to change anything while changing the clutch. or anything that I should change while the clutch isn't in the way for the mean time.

And is there any place that would be recommended to go to for changing clutches in Auckland?

Take the flywheel off and change rear main seal, also changing drive shaft seals would be good idea too.

And obviously new thrust bearing and pressure plate.

Maybe do gearbox fluid at the same time as it probably hasn't ever been changed... then you'll always remember when it was done :D

Be warned, those flywheel bolts are usually nice and tight - Powerbar and extension bar tight :o

And put a spanner on the front crank bolt, hold it with ur feet, and then crack, fun games.

What i replace when i replace my clutch:

Thrust bearing,
Spigot bearing,
Machine flywheel,
Rear main seal,
Gearbox seal,
P/Plate
C/Plate.

I'll be sending it to a mechanic  Don't think i wanna be playing with the clutch. I'll be getting a pressure plate with the clutch, and will be machining down the fly wheel.

Where would it be the best place to get the seals and bearings? Toyota? or aftermarket brands?

Mr Revhead, genuine toyota parts. Don't bother with 'aftermarket' seals and bearings.

Questionable.

Genuine toyota gave me this part:

(the part that came out of the car is black, the one toyota gave me, orange.) Numbers matched and everything, obviously differant!

But in saying that, they are normally pretty good... Except they never got back to me about upgrading my clutch so i baught it somewhere else :/.

I did this, and it caused my good syncros to become crunchy, in my case it was the " if its not broken dont fix it " thing.

then you used the wrong oil or something....

changing the fluids can never be a bad thing.

same happened in my old st185 too, the buggered synchros became more noticeable after changing the gearbox oil. note i dont say it got worse  they were always that bad but the choice of oil just exagerated it.

I think the Redline MT90 stuff is good. Shockproof not good for syncro g'boxes.
