OK i went for a warrent yesterday and the guy didnt want to pass me as i got camber plates at the top of the front struts. Fair Enough as they didnt have any markings indicating what brand they were( I dont think TRD make camber plates anyway) I have to get a cert for them. I was also thinking this is only for street use couldnt i try something else and maybe replace them with a factory looking top hat? They are trd adjustables. How much would they cost? Is it possible? What would be the work involved doing this. If its all too much time and money ill just get a cert. I just dont want to cert it just yet as im planning to cert it at a later stage due to other mods. So anybody got any ideas?

doubt you'll get custom tophats made for much less than the cost of a cert...

OK yeah as Acesniper said put the stock stuff back in until cert.............Just a question here, so its only the camber top hat plates that are holding me back would there be any issues with just putting the factory front struts back in and leaving the adjustables in the the rear for the warrent or is that a no go?? Would that pass a warrent? Or would i have to change them all round?

Did you guys mean fit the stock struts or just fir the stock tophats?

IS this what im after? which one or both?

1st pic is what the original spring seats into, the 2nd pic is the top hat, which is what you will need to change for wof.

Are they coilovers? you say TRD adjustables so not clear, if they are coilovers just take the struts out mark where the spring perches are wound up to and then get a c-spanner and wind the perches down to take the load off the spring then you can change the top hats and reverse the process.

Make sure you clean the threads before winding them down. I have taped up lower threads on mine so they don’t get dirty.

If you take the struts out you will need to get wheel alignment. So if your getting it certed in the next six months swap the top hats back straight after the warrant and then go get an alignment asap.

you could do that, or you could borrow my spring compressors, and you won't have to mess around with trying to put the perches back where they were.

Label me ignorant but im not sure of the difference between coilovers and adjustables hence the reason i call them adjustabels I think its the TRD Sushkit, I think this is them:

They have the adjustable shocks at the top and are also blue in colour.

IM just trying to get ahold of those tophats first...........and waiting to get my car back from the panel beaters as i had a pretty nasty nose to tail this morning on the motorway......So yeah my car is pretty damn bad

People often mistakenly call adjustable coilovers "coilovers".

"Coilovers" is basically slang for "coil over shock(or damper, take your pick)", where the spring and the shock are one unit, as seen in probably 99% of modern cars, instead of a seperate shock and spring (I think you can see an example of this in the back of an AE86?)

Adjustable coilovers are just that, a combined spring and shock that have any or all of the following: damper, spring rate and ride height adjustment.

Adjustable suspension is also available in cars that don't have coilovers, I think in this form only the damper is adjustable, ride height and spring rate would most likely require replacement of the shock, spring or both.

Hopefully that clears things up for you, and if anything I've just written is incorrect, someone feel free to correct me.

Oh and that sucks about the accident dude, hopefully you have insurance and they pay out.

you can indeed! several european manufacturers, notably BMW, still use this setup today.
