Altezza suspension into ke20 ?

Postby kharmis » Sun Sep 16, 2007 3:08 pm

Hi, I want to know if it's possible to put front coilovers (tein) out of an altezza into a ke20?

I know modification is required, but I don't know exactly what or if it is possible/legal?

Info would be appreciated, thankyou

Coilovers require certification

Hmm I'm pretty sure you asked whether they are legal and I told you.
Also your pic isn't of altezza teins.

I would say it'd be easier/more sensible to buy a sleeve kit and make your own.

something like:

Thats in a ke25.

My bad with the pic, thought the two on the right looked identical.

The ones in your pic look about right.

Yeah re: 1st post I know cert is required and I will be certing my whole car because it is a ground up build but what I meant was I wasn't after a solution that wouldn't be certable.

I'm not 100% familiar with the rules regarding certification.

Still learning on the suspension side, had 2 suggestions though, one was to machine up an alloy mount for the bottom?

Other was to grind the teins flat, modify the original ke20 strut housing and fit the shocks inside?

I have looked into buying a sleeve kit although I found most available use cheap metal and shoddy spring rates. Good ones i've found would probably cost me the same as putting these in.

The latter suggestion would likely destroy the shock from heat, the former would work if you could somehow figure a way to make it sit solidly.

Because as I said a lot of the examples have cheap sleeves and crap spring rates.

I already have these in my posession so if it's possible I would like to use them but that's what i'm trying to find out.

Yup the heat would be a problem. Do you have any suggestions of other way? I guess you really have to count welding out with them being gas shocks and all?

TBH, it'd be cheaper to sell them and import a Ground Control kit from TechnoToyTuning. I got a set and they sleeves are quite good, plus you get a choice of spring rate (Eibach, not some nameless crap either)

talk to the guys at the koni workshop (part of george stocks in auckland) they are really good and set you down the right path, I got sleeves and spring seats for my spax shocks to suit the king springs race springs, so now I got a choice of hundreds of length/spring rate combos. Pretty cheap too(was about $500 for 2 - all hardware($100 per shock), labour ($60 per shock) and springs ($100 each).. I already had good shocks) and they did a really nice job.
