Postby fx gt » Sun Jan 13, 2008 10:33 pm

on the way home today the fxgt started squeling so pulled over and got a tow home

took the fan belt of and started it again.made the same noise. so is nothink to do with fan belt. going to take the altenator/water pump belt of tomorrow and see if it still makes the noise. could it be waterpump making that kinda noise? or maby altenator?

would anyone have a diagram as to take the belt of. and water/altenator pics.how there mounted/bolts

Fan belt on those goes to the alternator and water pump correct? Well if you took that off and it still made the same noise you might want to start looking elsewhere.

Well they don't really have a "fanbelt" as such, there are belts to drive A/C, P/S alternator etc. Drop one off and see if the noise stops. If not then drop the next one off and see if the noise stops (this is assuming you checked the belts were tight and not the source of noise for that reason)

the one that drives the AC and powersteer is a regular culprit. it will be in a loop of 3 pulleys with one tensioner pulley. the loop is the one closest to the front of the engine. to loosen loosen off the bolt on the front of the tensioner then undo the bolt on top of the tensioner. its piss easy

Just remember if you take the belt off that runs the water pump and alternator, don't let it run for too long as the water pump wont be pumping
