primering my car

Postby trdtrueno » Sun Feb 10, 2008 6:56 am

im going to be prepping my car for a full paint job, and i was just unsure that if i primered the car and drove around in it for a couple of days would that be bad at all for the car ie reguarding primer???is it ok to leave it on and have no problems with rust or anything?? any help appreciated. cheers

from what i have been told its not the best - apparently conventional primer absorbs water fairly readily, and if you drive it you risk not only getting rained on, but you will also need to wash it before it gets painted to get rid of the dust etc it will pick up - another chance for it to absorb water.

though if you are doing the prep work yourself, i guess you arent too concerned about the finish ;)

dont worry you dont wash your car before painting lol

2k primer is porus so it absorbs moisture but it aint a prob driving round in primered cars i done it for 8 months, blocked it back hit it base an clear and 3 years later no probs even the exposed spots that got 1k wash primer
