Wire brush it until most of its gone, soak a bit of rust kill stuff on it overnight (can get it at Repco) and if you can get a bit of compressed air in the next day to make sure its dry. Can put a bit of fishoil on if you want, and if you use it or not get some of that brush on underseal stuff to keep anything out. Can use the spray on but it just doesn't go on as thick.

And the sound deadening sheets you can get, no point spending the extra money on name stuff from Repco etc that use it for car audio. There is a place that does it reasonably priced down here, can get it per sheet or in boxes of 10 from memory. Sticky on one side, lay it down and heat the crap out of it with a heat gun to mould it into place nicely

id probably refrain from fish oil under the dash, cos if use your fans ur just gunna get that smell blown at ya. surface rust, depending on how coarse it is i wouldnt worry, if its a big deal to you id get some fine-ish grit sandpaper and get it off with that, failing that wire brush and rust inhibitor, though i cat see it needing that much attention.

I don't think Ive ever seen one of those bars that isn't rusty. Its just surface rust. Wire brush it, buy a can of hammerite and spray it. As for sound deadening, find a bostic agent and buy it from them. Dyna mat = $$$.

Just don't be over paranoid this isn't an AW11, I haven't seen one photo you have posed yet i would deem a rust issue as such.

lol, stupid me thought it was an AW. If its an SW then don't worry, wire brush anything and give a flick with some spray paint.

Thanks for all the advice guys - Much apreciated :D

Not a very good photo but heres the dash: http://i256.photobucket.com/albums/hh19 ... G_3351.jpg

Just an fyi really in case you had anything else to add... will just leave it as per your advice unless you think i should deal to it.

Another issue is the seat mounting point, it has a fair pit of pitting there and while i have cleared it away ready to pain i am concerned that the area in the little raised section where a sander and paint cannot reach may be going nasty...

Heres the pictures, not embedded in case we have anyone on a modem. The raised hollow i mentioned is right in the middle of the image.

You dont usually put fish oil over paint. Hammerite for the win, brush it straight over the rust.

if you're already going to have POR15, just slap that on anything you are worried about, it will sort it.

Hammerite does look the business tho, but POR15 does the trick

oh i thought you needed to get a good amount of the rust off first?

Perhaps im going about this all wrong, im sanding around anywhere that has rust to make sure there is nothing else hiding under the paint... is this wrong?

nope

POR15 is good stuff, but it wont magically fix rusty bits!
remove all you can, if rust has gotten under paint you need to remove that paint.

yeah ideally you want to clean back enough paint that the rusty area is completely exposed and you can see shiny steel all round it.

lol.

You can carbonate your raro with dry ice too- makes it fizzy

dont try removing the tar without dry ice IMO. Ya leave bits behind which are a pita to remove. Just chuck dry ice over it and 99% of it will come off cleanly.

I removed the tar from my sw20 using a heatgun and petrol. It was the worst job in the whole entire world and i don't recommend going that route. EVER.

I didnt even really notice the noise increase.

AW11 was different though. Couldnt even hold a conversation in that.
