Bleeding Clutch fluid

Postby xsspeed » Sun Jun 22, 2008 6:46 pm

Hey guys,

I'm having issues bleeding the clutch fluid through in my corolla.
I have replaced clutch components, and when I did obviously drained the clutch fluid. Now I have topped up the reseviour, loosened the nipple on the slave cylinder, (using a 1-way valve to bleed it), and depress the clutch pedal but nothing happens. The level in the reserviour drops a bit after a few pushes but then slowly comes back to the top.

Am I missing something?

Cheers in advance

the one way valve isn't working.

Do it the proper way - get a 2nd person to do the "tight" - "loose" - trick on the nipple. Easy

It's cos your lines are full of air. As above.

loosen nipple
press pedal down
tighten nipple
let pedal up

Repeat until the fluid pumps through.

If there is air in the master cylinder - it can take quite some time/pumps to get the fluid through.

Do it the oldskool way.
When I replaced the clutch line on the misterpoo, it was one meeleeeon pumps per minute and still took 30mins+ to get ANY pressure.
No "stance", no "hellaflush", none of that bullshit. Nothing but no grip on full boost.

Also, is your clutch master cylinder double action?

hey cheers guys, yeah cat I think your right actually bout the one way valve, I had a think about while doing the laps around foodtown.

Maybe the one way valve will be sweet once the fuid runs through but until then theres a lot of air in the pipes. so old school way it is, so much for fancy one man bleeder kits, pisssshhhh

and no I doubt itd be dual action, its in a ee80 corolla. no bells or whistles

how would a dual action one work? does it assist the release?

I'll help with yours if you help with mine

I had been wondering why it was getting harder to change gears

Getting to the nipple on an AW is a bitch though.

You need a pressure bleeder. Easiest way to tell is to open bleed nipple, depress clutch pedal, close nipple, pedal stays depressed.

Or apply a bit of positive air pressure to the reservoir with the bleed nipple open. Fluid can't go anywhere except the right way. You only need to use a bit of garden hose and blow down it while sealing off the top of the reservoir with your hand. Been there done that on the AW.
See ya
