High volume oil pump to suit 20 valve 4AGE needed

Postby ke25sr » Tue Sep 30, 2008 10:28 am

I havent had any luck finding 1 to suit the 20 valve. But have found plenty to suit the 16 valve.
Are the interchangable?
Does any one know were i can get one to suit 20 V?

thanks

Well the ones Baz was getting suited the 16V as well as the 20V, so going by that i'd say they are interchangable.

I got told last week by on_psi that you can simply add a washer to shim it?

Higher volume doesn't necessarily equate to higher pressure. Higher volume would cycle the oil through your engine more often so you'd probably also benefit from a winged and baffled sump and possibly an oil cooler.

yeah, sump mods should be higher on the list than more volume
stock pumps are fine to around 9500 rpm or so
blacktop oil pump has mounts for the tensioner on it

what have you done to the engin to need the better pump?

Yes you can shim them to increase the "oil pressure relief valve pressure",

but that is already at about 80psi, and the only time most cars exceed that,
is if you thrash them with cold oil.

Under normal conditions you could shim it too 1000psi,
under normal warm use it will make no effect.

The only way to get more oil pressure, is to restrict flow,
by tighter bearing clearance's, block the oil squirters etc etc,
or a pump that flows more volume, or litres per minute.

The 16V and 20V oil pumps are interchangable,
and the only real difference in the BT one is the hydro belt tensioner.

Don't think you will need a different pump

also you cant buy any other pumps better than the stock toyota unit.

I tried to get Toga pumps but they dont make them any more for the 4age. Web sites still list them for sale, but no one actually has these in stock. Toga them selves said they arent running any production for the 4age pumps (obviously not enough demand for them).

I run a big as oil cooler and long -10 lines, std pump is fine. The pump relief valve is set at around 80psi like matt said. I had my relief valve jam, and I got over 100psi of pressure above 4000rpm.

I would install it, see what the oil pressure runs first.
