ST215 Clutch help

Postby cat007 » Sat Nov 01, 2008 1:31 pm

Hey all,
I've just started with the clutch on the ST215 but I'm really lost of what to do, or where to start.

Does anyone have any tips/suggestions? Or better yet - does anyone live out west, Glen Eden to be precise.

I want to take it out over today and tomorrow - get clutch and flywheel sorted during the week, and back together next weekend. Is this a realistic timeframe?

I've only ever delt with my Supra - and this has made me go 8O 8O 8O

Cummon - there must be someone who's bored today? :)

Although we have to be out of here just after 3, so maybe, if someone's free tomorrow who knows what they're doing? :)

Cheers :)

pretty much entire engine and box has to go out the bottom of the vehicle, then once out you undo the box, rotate the box as you remove it to get the transfer over the block wing, or remove the transfer first, then the main gearbox. Pretty major job, as you are probably just discovering

OK so clutch is all done - albeit needs re-bleeding - feel's very very soft and the gears are notchy.

I had an issue on Sunday with putting the drivers side axel in. I stupidly pulled it out of the CV when taking the whole thing apart. I couldn't get the axel circlip in. It kept bending as I would push the axel into the hub. I'm guessing its the original clip, so it'd probably lost a bit of spring. I was told by my mates mum to just leave it and she will sort it on Monday for us to come and collect Monday night

Sure enough after a few issues on Monday (like me putting subframe up without the exhaust and the exhaust being too bit to fit) she finished the car.

Awesome - After work on Monday we go to collect

Clutch feels soft and gears a notchy - that's fine - I'll re-bleed it later, as long as it goes

Anyway - last night - as my partner pulls out of her work drive to come pick me up. Full lock left turn to get out of the drive. She hears a funny noise but thinks nothing of it. Then at a set of lights up-hill when she tries to take off, there's a horrible grinding noise and clunking. She finds someone to help push her to a side road.

I get a call from her saying "my cars fu(ked", so I quickly leave work and walk/run to her car. Sure enough - drivers side axel WASN'T pushed in properly - and has popped out of the hub!!!

I called my mates mum up - and luckily her daughter comes to the shore every Wed to see her partner - so she'll come help us.

Cant get the axel in all the way - held the axel in place with 2 big zip ties and slowly drove home (from center of town to Torbay!!). Most fuel efficiant drive I've ever done LOL

She follows us home making sure we get there safely and blocking off the road where need be so we can make very wide sweeping turns as hard turns would probably cause it to pop out again.

So the 5UPRAH is now the "sit in traffic and drive to work" car. Which really sucks - as it costs $20 a day to run into town and back - compared to less than $10 a day for the GTT. Will be sorting a new "clip" today - and should be able to repair it this Saturday.

joy joy joy
