removing ze oil pump

Postby gleem » Fri Jun 19, 2009 6:34 pm

having troble removing my ze oil pump from ae101. engine is out. crank pulley of all bolts undone. The gear/pulley on the crank behind the crank pulley is what i think is keeping that whole plate there. How do i remove this and has any one got any online sites for removing oil pumps on 4ages. searches showed nothing specific thanks

The crank pulley is common for being really tight (or crank gear where belt runs). Spray it with CRC or a similar rust penetrant and try and get a puller behind it, a 2 legged type ine is best to use . Or you could try 2 screwdirvers behind it to pull it off, levering against sump or something. It's time consuming and you need to keep working the gear back and forth until it comes off.
Then undo the bolts around front of the oil pump 12mm head bolts, about 7 or so.
Good luck

dumb question - is sump off? is oil pickup unbolted?
Good luck
I used to think that the orange and green tictacs gave you special powers. The orange ones would make you stronger and the green ones would make you faster. So i used to eat some green ones and run around my lounge as fast as i could, then eat the orange ones and try to pick up the sofa. I wish it were true!

Just be careful when you pry it off with a screw driver as i was super awesome and chipped both my crank and timing pulleys when trying to get them off.

I think you might have just $&#$% the oil seal, you would be putting a new one in anyway.

The oil seal being the bit that sits around the crank.

sounds like a lack of the correct tools.

there is a engine reconditioner just next door to me, he would be able to sort you out

IMO the best way to get stubborn crank gears off is to drill two 5mm holes 180 from each other and tap two a M6x1.0 threads. Then use a slotted plate type puller. Ive had to use a little bit of heat on a 4agze gear once before, as the m6 bolts were stretching hard out.

IMO pry bars and screwdrivers are a bit hit and miss. puller is the prefered way to get off dampners without chipping them. New seal takes like 2secs to whack in.
