Anyone got a beams motor with the intake manifold off?

Postby RomanV » Thu Oct 27, 2011 11:15 pm

Hey guys,

On my motor there's quite a substantial 'mismatch' in size between the base part of the intake manifold, and the ports.

Just wondering if this is normal?

I'm thinking that normally the port might match with the base part of the intake manifold, but has perhaps been widened.

Otherwise I'm thinking this could be something to do with air mixing with fuel as best possible, (as this is near the injector) or to minimise reversion or something.

Does the gasket normally sit near flush with edge of head, but lots of overlap on base part of manifold?

Like so:

I'm thinking that there could be some benefits by matching the upper wall of the intake manifold section to the top edge of the port.

Thoughts?

I can take a look at mine over the weekend if I have time. Might even bolt on the ITB's I got from truenotch for a geez

Edit: how are you using the stock plenum for RWD though?

I'm using the stock Altezza manifold.

However the base part of the manifold, and the rubber insulator part, are the same across all beams motors, rwd or fwd.

I'm surprised that the head matches the gasket as well as it does! nearly looks like its been opened up to match.

Every gasket/port that I have ever looked at has pretty much been like your first photo.

Man those beams heads are nice 8)

Edit:
Dont forget about tomorrow 8)

That's pretty normal Dave, mine have all been like that.

There could be gains from smoothing it out, but there's only one way to find out ;) .
