So it seems like the general consensus is for the acl race bearings, with toyota rings and gaskets. Will price them up sometime soon.

i think it pretty much comes down to who you know.

i just got a bunch of 4age stuff from ACL via repco, they supplied mahle piston rings. i'd be surprised if these were any worse than factory parts, but i guess time will tell.

to the OP, post up prices on what ya get! will be interesting to see how they compare.

oh i also looked at the retail prices for the complete bearing set, and it was about $250 for ACL race BE, mains and thrusts

guess im too used to not paying retail :) can say i paid alot less than what acesniper was suggesting were staff rates at repco :?

Hey got retail prices for acl race bearings at supercheap today, $60 for big ends and $75 for mains. So they are really cheap there.
But they wanted $400 for a top end gasket set. Sweet bargain...

Yeah for some odd reason both ACL and NZG silvertop headsets are stupidly spendy...$110+ I think for the TGP set.

Anyone rebuilt a blacktop recently?
Have a runner, but smokey, and gunked up. After a estimate for;

Labour (Will dissassemble & reassemble myself)
Acid tank, clean all components, check bearing clearance, set valve clearances

Parts
Bearing Set (acl race?)
-mains
-bigends
-thrust
Gasket Set (genuine?)
Ring Set (genuine seams to be the go)
Cambelt
Tensioner
Waterpump

Anything else need for a freshen up?

silvertop con rods if you are going to be going near the track or thrashing it heaps on the road..

Although everyone seems to be pressing ACL bearings I haven't had much luck with them. I suspect it's simply because they are a very hard shell and can't handle the slightest lack of oil pressure. I'm having better racing runs with stock.

You may also want to think about forging the internals. USD is extremely good at the moment and the piston manufacturers seem to be having sale battles.

Thanks for comments. Just looking for the cheapest option for a good reliable hp, having previously well thrashed a bt on the track for a few years without an issue I am not scared of using factory rods and am also well satisfied they make enough hp.

Have been somewhat seduced by the dark side of racing on gravel and will be going into a fxgt, and the name of the game is to keep it low cost.

Rods - if your rebuilding the engine I recommend using silvertop rods.

Balancing.... factory toyota balancing for crank is pretty good
Marshall Motorsport did my machining and balancing - he was fairly impressed with how good the factory crank was (he balanced 2 for me). Same with the factory flywheels

The rods are matched at the factory so the variation isn't too bad (not as good as crank though).
If you get your rods resized then they will balance them at the same time.

I used to think that the orange and green tictacs gave you special powers. The orange ones would make you stronger and the green ones would make you faster. So i used to eat some green ones and run around my lounge as fast as i could, then eat the orange ones and try to pick up the sofa. I wish it were true!
