Headunit wiring colours (SW20 1990 Gen 1)

Postby headshotnz » Mon Feb 27, 2012 5:53 pm

I found a wiring diagram on the internet, which was perfect for me gen 2 sw20, but it seems its different for my gen 1 :(

I horyied up a test light to find the 12v, iginition and earth.

But now i dont know what speaker is what. :S

So does any one know the wiring colours?

Check which wires are going to the speakers in your door panels. That will tell you which is which and that should be easy given your door cards aren't on.

Process of elimination bro

Purple and white are speaker/tweeter wiring. The wire with the two white wires crimped to it are illumination  Passengers side speaker wire is $&#$% too, some mutant chopped it and wrecked it at some point along the way

Yeah, there different wires from the speakers to what comes out in the dash. For instance there seems to be no "iginition wire" well not in the loom, theres one poking through which appears to be maybe wired of the ciggerate lighter.

Oh god.

Yeah, there was a wire attached to the lighter, whoever hacked it up was a fritter. I removed a whole shitload of redundant wires. I did actually hack a plug out of a car at pick a part a while back with the intention of soldering it in again, never got around to it though.

Cheers mate,

Okay i found half the problem.

After tracing the wires from out of the door, into the cabin (By removing the bottom panel were the frunk release is) the front right speaker cables come out of there, and are cut were it goes into the loom.

$&#$% fritta is right.

Although, now testing those wires, there still not hooked up to anything

I did find the rear speaker wires though, think i might just run new wires out of the door.

I know how this always ends up though (6 months down the track and the wires fall onto the floor/get ripped up by peoples feet. grrr

took me about 3 day to install mine because mine had one of those factory amplifiers and some other crap. ended up soldering some RCA plugs to the wires that used to run to the headunit so that i could keep running the factory amp.
