water/meth injection, anyone using this? kw gains?

been reading up about this quite a bit as there are alot of guys in the states running these kits cos of their low 93 octane.

just wondering if anyone here has used one and can show some proof of power gains? they say around 10-20% increase which is ALOT. and of course the added potential to run more boost 'safely' with pump gas.
current: 96' Supra RZS single Gt42 490kw at 20psi, daily - Hiace 2.7 van '05
previous: 92' mr2 g-limited, fuls gen 2 turbo conversion, steel ct20b, external etc etc :)
drift car: 94' silvia s14 sr20det 307kw @18psi

without doing anything else you wont gain squat. unless your set up is lacking something to start with (like an intercooler) you either need to retune the igntion timing or run more boost for the same ignition advance to get the true gains, in a deisel turbo though, its AWESOME :) and 10-20% isn't out of the question

See my project thread with dyno graph. I have an extra injector connected to a separate fuel tank/pump with E85 in it. The G4 Storm injects the E85 when I am running high boost. The amount of "normal" fuel is reduced by 20% and the timing increased. The boost stays at 18psi and I go from 150KW to 172KW.
14% more powers!!!

It uses bugger all E85, the tank is only about 4L. Theoretically, I would struggle to empty it on one tank of "normal" fuel even on a trackday.

Something you need to know is that Mericans use a different octane rating to NZ and the rest of the world, so their 93 Octane fuel is the equivalent to our 98 Octane fuel.

Just remember your extra boost is only safe if your water meth system is working. If it fails/runs out of fluid then you risk detonation.

I have a water methanol system from aem that has a flow sensor which measures the flow of methanol and if it goes out of expected values it sends a signal to either your ecu or boost controller to retard boost / timing.

Cars isn't fully up and running, gearbox died on the dyno, but on a 2jzge turbo conversion with stock compression I was looking at 10psi without the water methanol and 15 with it spraying.

FYI aem is sold though J-tune in auckland and I found them to be completely useless, they wouldn't even give me a quote, just told me to go to the aem website, convert it to nz dollars, then add a bit for freight and then gst. When I got back to them and asked them about the cost of freight and getting a 5 gallon tank, they never got back to me.

There was a aqua mist system on trademe this months with a flow sensor, might still be for sale.

yea looking at the aem one, and yes looked at j-tune website and all i found is facebook page, so not even going to bother with them,

adoom, 14% is damn good and thats just straight e85 injection? your dyno plots are great, didnt expect it to make such a difference, how much was it to get it all tuned in with the link?

Yep, it injects straight E85. No water.
There is a manual arming switch, and a float level switch wired in series. So if the fuel level goes too low, or I disarm it, the system deactivates.
The car was already tuned at the low and high boost levels. So it was just getting the E85 injection tuned.
I was expecting $300-$400, but there was a high boost misfire when they put it on the dyno(even with the E85 system turned off). So with new coils, labour for wiring and two dyno sessions, it eventually blew out to ~$800. :?
The injection system cost about $200 to put together. I had most of the parts, so only needed to buy the hose/fittings and fuel filter. Half of that cost was gas to tig the alloy tank.

So I get the left over Aquamist's to put my big ole' diesel turbo where it doesn't matter so much it if it blocks up or not.

i used to use port injection setup on my old car. only injected water for in cylinder cooling. didn't really do much for det/power on my setup. if you are going to inject alcohol. may as well just run e30 or something. less to go wrong.
