Oil Pressure and Water Temp Senders

Postby GGnz » Mon Oct 10, 2005 1:39 pm

Just purchased a Oil Pressure and Water Temp guage today but having trouble finding the sensors in my Trueno AE111 Blacktop. Anyone know where abouts these are and if its easy to get to them? Cheers.

not sure if it changed for the 20v, but If not, the oil pressure switch is just to the left of the oil filter. water temp above the g'box.
I recall something being discussed about this a while ago, may be in search.

Yeah done a few searches. Went to Auto Electical and they showed my the oil pressure one. Looks like there is alot more involved since it has an "idiot" light attached. Water temp I still haven't found but have an idea of what area its in. Theres just a few others there as well by the looks of it. May need more parts

Water temp is by thermostat housing but facing back, for the water temp sender its best to use this adaptor insted of taking the factroy sensor out Image

Yup, as said, buy one one of those, cut the radiator hose in half, and fit that sucker.

MAKE SURE YOU HAVE THE SENSOR BEFORE YOU CUT THE HOSE (or buy 2 smaller hoses so you can keep the main one in tact)

Oil pressure youll need to remove the factory idiot light sensor, and fit a virable oil pressure sensor... (ae86's had them, what else has a 4age oil pressure gauge?)

will a 3sge one fit? (the idiot light sensors are pretty small, the gauge style ones are big tanc ones).

AE92s had them, AT162s did.
My 3SGE had one (bout 1.5inches in diameter) shouldnt be too pricey from a wrecker.
May I ask where the gauges are going in the car?

If you remove the "factory idiot light sensor" and install a "variable oil pressure" sensor, this obviously gets your Oil Pressure gauge working, but do you then loose your ECU's ability to measure pressure at the same time ? ie safety engine cut on low pressure.

i was about to say lol, wtf u talking about.

Ecu cant measure it, because its an idiot light, not a pressure gauge sensor baha :P!.

yeh, chrome cups on the dash bro ;).

*cough*, i suggest you mount them in the din slot... or something alike?

Image

Yeh, its for an mr2, but if you mounted the sterio in the bottom din slot, and put the gauges in the top, they become fairly easy to see (ae111 have a high mounting din / sterio point). Unlike aw11's hahaha.

Ive mounted the cups as of today. They are sitting up beside the door. Still a bit of work to be done on the bracket.

Just curious as to that hose adapter. Hows it stop the water from leaking and where can I get em from? And what exactly am I asking for? All I know is its a 1/8" or 1/4" NPT fitting on the water temp.

Like how do you make sure the water doesn't leak when putting the fitting it. Remember this is new to me lol.

Empty the water system first and use hose clips :!:

Its simple, empty water system ( probly a bung on bottom of raditor if not remove bottom hose) Put inline adaptor in, hose clip both sides..Put water back in.

when you put the adapter piece in, cutting the top hose (or swapping for two half length ones) will obvously make some coolant fall out.
really you can do it without draining, but its a good opportunity to renew the collant if you do drain it.
as stated, you need to use hoseclips on the new piece simply so it does not just blow off as soon as radiator becomes presurised as the car warms up.
not a hard job really.
