APEX'i used to do one that's manually operated, and back in the 2003 days there was a group buy on an electronic one made by some American company.

I was thinking about using one of them recently, and have the valve controlled by a rev switch, kinda like the Jags/Astons/New Falcons use.

Hey, at least it sounds like a 3s.

you're all so skeptical, maybe he wants to have a normally quiet car 90% of the time and a mildly loud car the other 10% (which are hopefully during daylight hours ).
I think it is legal and can be certified provided it does not exceed 95db in any setting.

definably a day car only has only been out at night for some ball drop offs, but at the moment it has a flange just before the muffler that i swap before going racing as such.

the normal muffler is reasonably quiet but really cuts power in the 5000+ region would be nice to be able to get round this

was really lookin for the different companies/names, and anyone that has experienced what they are like

i'm not sure if its skepticism or being realistic as to his requirements and whats actually legal to do

Could be an option to get a better muffler then? loud doesn't equal power. A fast car can easily be quiet, so maybe look at a redesign of your current system. what size piping?

what car is it?

What!?
Every one knows the louder it is the faster your car goes!

Find me a quiet car, you keep it quiet and make power, ill make it loud and have more power.

The correct term is clocks :)

The altezza's have one in their factory muffler, it is spring controlled, not sure if it is on both models or not.

Can't be bothered finding, it, but when I was reading about it I followed a link from here.
http://homepages.paradise.net.nz/jswright/altezza.html

Apparently the spring breaks after a while and rattles in the exhaust, and no way to open it up without royally $&#$% it.

There is an Aussie company that makes them too, can't think of their name off the top of my head.

You could always have a go at making one yourself... would probably need some help from a physicist/spring person and a flow person to sort out the pressures you'll be dealing with.

http://autospeed.com/cms/A_1744/article.html?popularArticle

I think it's a cool idea, personally I have been wondering about fitting a wastegate type of thing to my exhaust to keep a constant amount of back pressure to keep noise to a minimum... yeah it'll use a bit more gas having to force the exhaust out, but I'm more concerned about noise than fuel consumption... at least at the moment.
