Incorrect Mr Pervert.

They can be cut if the ends from the factory are plain and unground and no heat is used OR they may be modified by a recognised spring manufacturer as long as the ends are reshaped to factory configuration.
Not generally worth it though when you can get custom wound springs pretty cheap.

So if it's a standard style spring (like in a KE70 for example), with one flat and shaped end and one normal end of the spring, you can chop coils off the normal coiled end...and make certification?

I'm kinda confused... :D

Download the PDF from LVVTA, $&#$% have protected it so I can't copy text.

But basically what you said is correct. If both ends are tapered then a spring maker has to do it. But for the cost of cert, unless you have lots of other stuff getting done you might as well just get custom wound springs.

Yeah, I wasn't planning on doing it anyway, it's just so I don't go spouting off incorrect information again...

I have cut springs and a cert. (Yes they were passed)

As purple beasty said, if they are shaped etc on the end, must be matched if shortened.
