oops, I thought it sounded a bit dumb for something coming from M.D's mouth/fingers.

I'm pretty sure there's a little thing that stops you from being able to see the cam through the oil filler, but you might just see it on the right angle

Might that just be telling you that its expecting to see an rpm / airflow signal, but getting none?

Honestly.. If you think its a cambelt which has gone, why don't you just spend a bit of time to check that out first? Sounds like from this there has been a lot of guesswork but nothings actually been checked? Even just prying back the wee plastic cover will tell you if its snapped or not.

You get that code if you break a cambelt,
as the ECU gets a start feed from the key and does not see the dist turning.

You also get it a lot of times for other reasons when the cambelt is OK.
like a faulty dist sensor, or a wiring fault.

You still need to check visually.

well the noise i heard sounded nothing like it.. But sure enuf there is no belt visible on the cams now..

I belive the trusty 3s is Non interference anyway so it should be ok.. i think theres like a 3% chance it could do damage.

I just took the cam cover off.. things Look ok..so fingeres crossed.

its not hard to do one in place ethier cliffy
and i think the retail on them is about 40 bucks.....genuine
might pay to do water pump and while your in there
there about 80 bucks retail i think.....genuine


probably take you 2-3 hours to do :D
