for some odd reason toyota didnt cast a lug on the top of no1 port for a stud. so there is not a lot holding the manifold at that end.
as such they warp and/or pull the bottom stud out or rattle it loose. causing more warpage therefore ruining the manifold.
the facelift/superceded part has an extra lug and you just put another stud in. there is already a hole there in the head for it.

we'v done about 5 here alone. and iv supplied 12 to a place in auckland....

Ha, that is funny mine has just done that exactly. Sounding like a tractor at the moment. But what is funny is the impellor on mine is steel also which i thought were supposed to be ceramic.

Not supposed, more like assumed to be ceramic because all that came before them were ceramic. There's long been rumours that the GTT came with a steel impellor, but no reliable proof has been put forward.

ok i just got my car in for repairs as my exhaust manifold has warped, the mechanic decided to get the manifold planed, is this such a good idea?

planing ke it straigth for now
but it will make the flange thicker and thinner in spots this will make it prone to warping

faceing off a flange sress relives the face....dosent mean it wont warp the other way as you mill it ethier
;d

So, it would appear my Blitz turbo has the pre-facelift manifold and as luck would have it seems to be leaking along the area in my photo here:
Image

Not sure if its a warped manifold or if the CT20b gasket I used has expired - Turbo only has 25k on it.....yawn.
At either rate when I checked today the far left nut had only ~35NM of torque applied while the others were fine at around 60NM.

What are my options if the manifold is warped? I assume with some fab work a CT20b manifold could be adapted to fit?

...Vvega? ;)

lol you called oh dependant one :D

basically ben we could cut the flange off and weld on a new one that would allow you to bolt it to the 9 stud manifold :D
or even a prefabed bling thing if your inner racer so desires :D
ill make a effort to be on msn later
