Sweet so I've just got to find new inner shafts? Also what about the CV's?

hey bringing back an old thread, so a vz v6 manual has a e52 (as per wikipedia) just like the ae92 gze?

so does that mean that all you would need is a suitable bellhousing to mount a vz to a gze e52?

Does anyone know if its possible to put the innards from an E154F (late model ST205 box) into an E51 AW11 supercharger box? I've heard it's possible to put the V6 camry manual internals into an AW11 box.

alot of the parts would probably be swapable but i think you couldn't just change the whole guts across as i'm pretty sure the 'crownwheel' is offset differently between 2wd and 4wd boxes

Both the E51 and E154F use the same part number for the diff crown wheel. (41221-20240). I think it'd be extremely likely that the bits could be swapped over, they are both wide E series boxes, but to do it properly you'd have to re-shim everything for the new case most likely.

4wd boxes are converted to FWD/RWD by removing the transfer case, and the 4wd diff guts and installing a 2wd diff and coverplate.

Unless you want to make silly horsepower an e58 and swap the shifter bits over might be easier?

E56 (E56-07C) is a 2WD gearbox - uses the same housing as the ST205 E154F but without the transfer case, has a plate on in. Is viscous LSD. Only came on 93,94 95 ST202 optional SS-II with superstrut (E-ST202- BLMVF it uses the same model code as regular SS-II only the trans/axle code is different). Wasn't on any Celica's after 95.

E56 is a narrow gear box, E15x are all wide gear. The housings will not be the same, the gearbox is about 35mm shorter, and gears, input and output shafts are not swappable between wide and narrow boxes. (but the synchros often are)

Difference between a wide and narrow gearset.

Thats the front cover only, effectively the bell housing. Which is the same as they all bolt to 3S/2C motors which share the same bellhousing bolt pattern.

The centre section is not the same.

Hi guys, I need some help with axles please.

I've got a st215 gen4 motor that I'll be mating to a st202 e56 lsd gear box. I've got a set of st202 lsd axles, minus the outer cv and hub. If I were to use a complete set of axles, hubs included, off a st202 I'd end up with 5x100pcd. I'm planning on putting this all in a fwd corona that uses 4x100 pcd hubs. So my question is, can I use a hybrid of e56 and e58 axles?

Could I use e56 inner shafts that fit my gearbox, with e58 outer shafts and hubs from a gze Levin so I can retain my 4x100 pcd?
Are the two gearbox's axles compatible?

Thanks.

I am pretty sure that the splines for CV's are same regardless of stud pattern.

Thats good to know. And are the gze outer cv shafts thicker than the st202? The inner shafts are just as thick as mr2 turbo axles. But the outer cv shaft is like a tooth pic compared to the inner.

Has anyone got a set of gze outer cvs they could sell?

Here are the different thickness of the outer cv shafts from a st202 3sge and a turbo mr2.

As far as I know there is no such thing (factory or aftermarket) as a front LSD in a 4wd E-series due to the way the 4wd system works. There are stories of a front lsd that was custom made for the TTE rally cars but thats rocking horse shit and moonbeams territory.

As for the gear swap, they both use the same input and output shaft so i'd be 95% sure that 3rd and 4th should swap straight over. Probably easier to swap the entire gearset over, so long as you use the keep the st205 diff you can have a working speedo/odometer.

TRD made a front/centre LSD for the ST205/ E154f. But it's quite rare, and very very expensive.

Hey sorry to pull up a dead thread but good info in here.

Just got a Q. Has anyone successfully changed the 5th gear ratio on an e153 box? Running at 2800 rpm at 100kmph is getting old!

I'm sure its been done.. you just need to find/make a pair of gears with a taller ratio. None of the wide series boxes have a taller fifth gear option that i'm aware of.

Option 2 is find the e153 or e53 from a v6 camry and swap to a 3.93 final drive. You'd need the output shaft and the diff gear to do it.
