What about the temp dropping while driving? Has that cleared up as well?
Mines doing the same thing...

hard to diagnose without looking but its probably water coming out of the exhaust, totally normal 8)

but its quite a lot... like one cold night, i started the car, waited 2 or 3 mins and revved it a little for a while and it basically blanketed the car behind me. I haven't seen it that bad since... but yeah.... its still a lot more than most cars...

hmmm you could have oil leaking past the exhaust valve guides which causes bad smoke similar to you described. Its pretty hard to tell without looking but that would be my first place to look.

Are air/fuel all good? O2 sensor all working? No faults from the ECU? High KM motor?

umm the smoke was white though - same as water vapour - not grey or blue or anything...
i'm guessing air/fuel is off cos i've got shitty fuel consumption - my guess being that the O2 sensor is bung - need to check.
dunno if there are any faults coming from ECU, how do you check?
the motor's on 193,000 kms

oil can appear to burn white, next time you cold start see if you can smell the exhaust, if it smells like burnt oil then it probably is.

Bad air fuel will usually make black smoke

Another thing it may be a leaky head gasket getting water into the combustion.

All internet forum speculation though, if your really worried about it take it to a mechanic, or get a repair manual and have a little read.

yeah i've been thinking it might be the head gasket...
does it usually blow black when it runs rich? cos it does blow a bit of smoke when i put the foot right down (but only when moving).
anyway, cheers for your help

If its just blowing smoke under acceleration then it sounds like the rings might be on their way out.

I assume you have a 16V 4age so it doesnt matter, they will wear down to the ground. Only way to properly destroy them is bottom end bearing failure, cam belt snap, out of oil or out of water. Not many other ways I can think of haha so your pretty safe for now. Just check teh fluids often.

The haynes repair manuals are very good for troubleshooting, it would be worth having a look at one.

yeah might be a combination of leaky head gasket and rings...
motor is a bit tired now, i don't think its ever had a rebuild in its life...
might see if i can find myself one of these manuals, cheers
