Dude, just weld a flat metal sheet where the sump would have bolted on to the block. Problem solved. 8)

hey KinLoud

just did some reading up on the accusump. and i must say its looking really affordable (380ish). loving the pre-start priming it can give.

may get the 2qt electric set up. any advice on installing it?, i got rwd 20v blacktop with 19 row oil cooler,
should i T it into the oil cooler line or into the block via oil press sensor.

Yeah. That accusump looks quite interesting.
It definitely bridges into a thought I had about the pre-oiling before switch on (although I was wondering if you could use a small electric boost pump. The accusump seems like a reasonable elegant way of doing it...)

I've flicked an email to cardwells.co.nz who seem to be somewhere in NZ that you can buy these things... quite keen really, seems like a good little bit of oil insurance.

I have the bigger one, 3qt? because there are some long corners on some tracks, a bigger volume will supply oil for longer.
Be aware that if the accusump has to provide oil to the engine the pressure drops off over time as the floating piston pushes the oil out - just the way accumulators work. So bigger volume will supply oil pressure for longer.

Get the mounting bracket also. Where to mount??? once you get it work out where you have some room and make mounts for the bracket to mount to.
It is best if the inlet outlet is higher than the other end otherwise bubbles of air could collect in it and reduce it's effectiveness.
Best to plumb it in at or before the oil filter/cooler - don't use oil pressure sender area - way too small to allow the oil to flow quickly.
Allow $200 - $300 to get it plumbed up - go see ENZED, hydraulink or Hosedoctor etc.
I have a valve that I turn under the bonnet after I start up - I don't worry about preoiling at the moment.
The electric valve setup could be cool - however I have heard comments about the diameter of the flowpath through these valves - do some homework.

I used to think that the orange and green tictacs gave you special powers. The orange ones would make you stronger and the green ones would make you faster. So i used to eat some green ones and run around my lounge as fast as i could, then eat the orange ones and try to pick up the sofa. I wish it were true!

edit: Just got a few more details, thought I should check, the 238+GST is only for the Valve kit... getting pricing for the 2 and 3qt Accusumps

Such a simple Idea, but great.

I assume when the engine is turned off, all the oil squirts back in the sump, or is that what the valve is for?

thats what the valve is for.
It sits there, holding whatever pressure you had when you turned the key off, so when you turn the key back on, it pushes whatever it has sitting in it, to your engine while the factory pump is sitting there building pressure.

indeed, very simple, and yet brilliant.

and just got a reply to my pricing query...

Canton 3qt $328+gst, 2qt $298+gst
Mount kit if required $38+gst

and from above...
35-40PSI electronic valve - $238+gst

Have asked about group discount too...

brilliant. So the valve would be needed as well?

cheers

do these have the ability to wire in a light to show when they have activated?
would be good to know when its being needed, as then you could look at why

I suppose you could tee in an oil pressure switch / sensor or the like to show what is in the canister.

I was just thinking, Wouldnt you be able to apply a similar idea to the fuel rail? (only thing being is the volume + pressures involved).

I don't see why not.

Once again, thats a thought I vaugely had.
The basic idea is the same as air receivers for air compressors. Storing a "large" volume of product under working pressure. Then if there's a deficiency it takes longer for the working volume to decrease to a dangerous level.
The accusump takes this a half (or is that one and a half) step further by locking off its storage when not required. Okay, so an air receiver is similar, but it's not like it's under constant load anyway!

Anyway. There's no reason that any pressure based system could do this. For the fuel rail a small "bullet" chamber inline with the pump could do the job, providing it had the appropriate check valves, and most likely it would need to be a non-return system.
Although I've though that it might not be that difficult to convert a return system into a non-return system...

I would imagine that the volume would be the biggest issue... although, that would just mean a shorter "backup"... I'm sure you could get one made up to cope with the pressures, although is fuel usually over 60psi, thats what these go up to?

wow those prices are a lot more then what i had worked out, im going to try and order a set up from the US. if our kiwi $ stays at what its at now then im sure i can get it for cheaper. that waht i have been doing for my ae86 project.
i have always found card wells a bit of a rip off because they have a monopoly on most American parts. like wilwood products. they use to be down here in christchurch way back and they never matched the pricing that other shops can give.

back on it: since you said that 3qt is better for long corners i may go for that one too. side ways for as long as possible with out oil press is not good haha esp in blacktop...

With an accusump the idea is that the valve stays open all the time when the engine is running. You wouldn't just open the valve when the pressure drops, you want it to work straight away!
The electronic valve just opens the valve when you switch the ignition on and closes when the ignition is switched off - more for convenience than anything else.

really? thats crazy.

I have pmd mac at fortyone and Al from driven performance about a group buy and Al is looking into it at the moment.

I think Mac was going to send some emails out as well.

group buys are a PITA and often not worth the hassle as ppl expect such a large discount as to make it non viable for the retailer.
