That means nothing! A WOF is issued in accordance with the VIRM.

If would be helpful if they had everything aligned to avoid confusion!

I thought it would be covered under the performance section

But if you read the corresponding reason for rejection...

f ) the centreline of the light beam projects to the
right of the vehicle’s centreline, or slopes down
from the lamp at angles other than the following:

i. as specified by the vehicle or lamp
manufacturer, or

ii. as specified in Table 4-1-1.

So if it either meets the pattern required in the table, or meets the manufacturers orignial setup then it has no reason to fail.

Meh, there's something specifically saying bulb replacements are illegal on the LTSA site, and I'm guessing if you contacted them, you'd get the same answer.

So I'd rather not be the first guinea pig to test the system, I have the luck of Job, and would probably end up in a head on at night with the other driver claiming he was dazzled by my lights.

If I was to fail every car that had bulbs that were not recommended by the headlight or vehicle manufacter there would be no cars passing WOF's. That would be if that information was available - if it was I am certain all it would tell you was that the bulbs base should be of the same design eg. H4.

Either way if you brought it to me and it was safe and passed my beamsetter tests then I would pass them!

Hid lights are fine if you can get the correct pattern out of them. and they dont blind you at night, normal rear reflecting hid lights just have a differnt colour and are a touch brighter, its only the hid lights with a focal point in the front of the light that you see change colour.

Every wof officer i know fails them... there has been the odd time ive been blinded by the $&#$%.. and i'd blame thier lighting for that, if it happened... i wonder if theyd chase up the issuing warrant officer, if an accident were to happen?

If you can show me where in the VIRM it says they are not legal then I can fail them but I can not fail them because a website said they were not legal even if it is the LTNZ website!

They can chase any WOF officer up if they like but if the WOF has been issued in line with the rules set out in the VIRM then they would be wasting their time! (much like the TRD platform adjustable suspension debate - which will pass a WOF)

The cars you are being blinded by should not have a WOF. If the lights are not aligned or out of focus it should have failed.

I would fail any HID lights that did not have a satisfactory pattern etc.
I would also fail any non HID lights that did not have a satisfactory pattern etc.

I do not make the rules and do not agree with all of them but the rules are the rules.
