silvertop,flatspot

is it just this engine or do other people find when thrashing it and changing gear the revs drop into a flatspot.it is going to be dyno tuned again soon but just wondering if the link computer can iron this out,we couldn't get rid of this problem last time and it seems to have something to do with the vvt kicking in.

Rev it harder an higher :D
if the engine is under strain (high gear low speed blah blah) and you try and floor it... or vvt comes on it will make a flat spot, ether change the vvt control to rev bassed or just learn to drive around it.

i had the same problem when i was running a stock motor, and i put it down to the delay on the vvt pulley, so i just wired it up to stay to rpm on the link.
Fixed it.
But now i don't run vvt,

vvt

on the dyno we tryed different revs to bring on the vvt but it has been set at revs to give best results, might try uping the rev cut to about 8400, as for trying to drive around the flatspot is a bit hard on a race track.

power

Postby fxgt race » Mon Apr 26, 2004 9:59 pm

it made 90kw at the wheels.the car is 1985 fxgt but still had the original fuel filter and a standard exhaust with red line filter socks, they have been replaced with a pipercross single filter and will get a new exhaust and fuel filter before it gets back on the dyno,so hopefully it should make good gains with the new mods.

Why is that?

My 20V turbo race motor has aftermarket cams but i'm unsure if to run the VVT or not.
The guy i bought the motor off doesn't have the info as he just paid an engine builder to to build it and it was a few years ago.

Thats because i'm running aftermarket cams and i've dialled them in to excact cam specs.

If your turbo motor has stock cams i'd leave the vvt on.

We got vvega's 20 v turbo to hall ass with stock cams

No they have fitted cams (from kelford's i think) but i do not have the specs. It still has the VVt pulley on the front but i dont know if it actually does anything. It doesnt seem to make a difference when you switch it on or off even at idle.

As you no doubt prob already know there should be a grind no. stamped on the cam somewhere, I would qoute that to kelfords and see if they could bring up the specs. If it was csl they do a grind for the vvt pulley

Have some more info.
Was actually a place in Palmerston north that ground the cams, but i do not know the name of them.
I now also need some specs to set the tappets to. I was told by the guy who built the engine that they should be set as per standard 20V silvertop, but he does not still have the specs. Any suggestions?
