Arc welding exhaust??

Postby Ae92typeX » Wed May 19, 2004 10:28 pm

Ive got a lil job to do on the exhaust, but my gas gear has run out. Never welded exhaust with an arc- does it do an ok job (assuming ofcourse the welder can weld properly)
dosent need to be flash, just functional

Its ok but with thin side walls all you'll end up doing is blowing holes. Be very carefull when starting, possibly strike an arc on soimething else to clear of the flux before you start on your exhaust.

And remember arc welders car only weld steel, no alloy, stainless steel etc. Starting off using low amps would be ideal on an exhaust also

Maybe I will rephrase this...

To do a proper job on stainless, preferably you wanna use a tig, arc is pretty tricky.

Mint,
cheers for the input guys. Engine just liffted out of supra today so I wont need to do for afew weeks now, but I'll give it a go then.
I was assuming low amps and thin rod. Looks aint important for the bit Im doing so it should go sweet.
