have investigated this previously, and i seriously doubt you'll get a set of 18's on there with tyres that will fit under your spring seats (at least in the rear)

width of the rim is gonna be a main factor, theres only a small selection of rims that are made in 18x7. my 17x7s just fit under rolled guards when the springs are fully compressed.

could run into all sorts of problems with your turning circle/scraping

the only way i could see it happening was if you had a set of coilover suspension (removes the spring seat problem) and if you got a decent flared guard setup and had a set of rims with an uncommon offset

hey andrew cheers for that ... i plan to get lowering springs / shocks as well depending on how the height thing works out

i was planning on 18x7.5 if i can find them

but 17x7 +lowering looks like the way to go i want to try keep the car as moveable as possible and as usable as possible (eg getting over driveways and bumps stuff like that)

distance between the ground and car wont be much of an issue... the main will be the distance between the rims and parts of the vehicle.. you'll actually gain ground clearance with a set of 18's as opposed to 17's...

other thing you have to take into account is the rolling diameter of a set of 18's and tyres as opposed to the factory specs. starts to become a warrant issue when the rim size increases that much over factory...

i wouldnt do it for the sheer cost and hassle when you can fit a set of 17's that look good and are relativly practical (as practical as 17's and low profile tyres can be on the road) for about 1/2 the cost

Really? I think you need to investigate things a little bit Harder!!

Below is my Flatmates AE101 FX-GT, the wheels are enkeis 18x7 (+40 offset) with 215/35/18 tyres all round. Suspension is Springs compressed 60mm with all 4 shocks shortened. As it sits in the photo is with no people in it, with 4 people the back wheels are well up in the guards

thats rather interesting...

reason i say that is because i tried on a set of 18's with that size tyre, and i couldnt get them on past my spring seats as the diameter was too big

but that is cool! 8)

doesn't ride too bad really, remembering that anything on compressed springs is never going to feel that great!

As for rubbing, umm well lets just say that the front inner plastic guards are pretty much non-existent now, they they don't really matter. No rubbing on the outer guards as such front or rear. There was a small amount of "massaging" required on the rear springs seats

If you're going to do it, dont go for 7.5 inch wide. 7 in about all you'll want on a car like that anyway. Offset is really the key to getting them in there. I've got 18x7s with 215/35/R18s on them without guards rolled, lowered and they fit in no trouble except for the massaging of the spring seats.

Actually sorry i was telling a lie there, no massaging was required at all, the key is just getting the correct offset. I was confusing it with his previous car that we had to bang the spring seats around (AE80 Corolla)
