What is this line for?

Postby method » Fri Jul 29, 2005 8:47 pm

I couldnt quite track it but its the fatter one of the lines comming from the back. Is it a fuel line or a hydrolic line? Or something else.

Its quite damaged but there are no leaks of any sort. I presume it has far less flow that it used to too.

Would this be a warrent issue?

This is the line thats dmaged. They run down the left hand side, the pic is near the passanger door. Its a ae82 corolla.

Hard to tell but it can only be one of the following: fuel supply/return/breather or rear brake line looking at the pic I would say its a fuel line (supply or return) being a bit bigger than the other ones

Yeah, thought it could be the fuel lines. I dont experience any spluttering under full throttle so its still getting fuel which is good i guess?

What harm would a block in the return line pose?

Could something burst and cause a fire? (thinking of pics from the 'why you should get a Rising rate FPR' thread)

Trace the line to the front of the car, most likely a return line or tank breather. Definitely fix it quick, cut the line, clean the end and then join it with EFI hose and clamps. I would look at some kind of protective cover if possible too.

Ok this is where the line leads to. Cant quite tell what the thing does but im sure you guys would know.

Any idea on what its for? It runs back to the fuel tank. Are there any dangers in using the car? Like overstressing the fuel pump or worse too much pressure that could cause somethign to burst?

And if you do replace that line (or cut it and put a joiner in) then make sure you use EFI fuel hose rather than standard stuff. The standard stuff isn't rated to anywhere near what the EFI stuff is. In saying that the EFI stuff is about $40/m or something stupid like that so you probably dont want to replace much ;)

Oh cheers for the replies guys.

Yep its $44 a meter 8O.

So just cutting a section out and clamping some EFI hose in is alright, no warrent issues?

I mesured the OD of the pipe to be 7.25mm, the efi hoses ID is 8mm. The next one down is 6.4mm or something. Id like to buy 1m so i can rerout it, its in a damn stupid place. But it is quite expensive :S

Any idea on the cost of replacing the whole metal pipe? I believe they are held in place by some sort of a snap lock mechanisim. Theres one before it goes up into the engine bay.

Last time I bought EFI fuel line it was about $10 for 1/2m from Repco, seen the same stuff at Supercheap too.

or find a place that does high pressure fittings... about $5 theres brass fittings with a coller that clamps onto each side of the line as the end caps are done up... there pritty much made for this... and they contain no rubber or anything fuel or fire will damage
