Turbo for 4agte

Postby Charged1 » Thu Aug 04, 2005 2:43 pm

Hi I had my car converted to turbo about six months back and was running a Hitachi ht-18 turbo untill it blew its guts , should I stick to this make , or is there a better option out there , the car did ran very well with this set up while it lasted.

what type of power were you making at what boost levels?

Generally those turbo's aren't too bad and are pretty cheap and easy to find but its all up to what you want out of it as to what turbo you should go with.

HT18's are pretty good and definitly had no complaints while running one on my car - have since upgraded. Full boost by 3800rpm ish although depends on which exhaust housing is used. Very strong turbos. I'd get one rebuilt possibly with a 360 thrust kit and you'll be set.

is the turbo your talking about from an rx s4?
cos i've put one together using a t3 exhaust housing from a r32, but still using the standard exhaust wheel which is damn huge. i just don't want it to lagy!
it's going to put on my ae101 4agze?
what do you reckon? or should i go for something else?

I can't remember what series it was from but it was a HT18-2s if that helps. Yes the exhaust wheel is huge. From memory I used a milled out RB20 housing. I'd go with a HT18 or a TD05h.

yeh those turbos work well.. i ranone on my levin up to 20psi and it did the job well with minimal lag.

how does the 360 degree thrust bearing kit make a turbo better?

hey charged1 have not seen ya round the shore.

Best bet is to goto one of the first of the month dyno days at Torque Performance in avondale.

If ya gotta go somewhere on the shore then try shoreperformance but readings from that dyno are only really comparable with others from there. Most seem to goto TP so makes sence to go there and only $50 to do the power run too.

Have you put it down the strip yet?

I'd agree with that. Ran 15-18 on mine a couple of times and shat a brand new clutch setup pretty easily. Would have loved to have had more fun with that combo but upgraded at the same time as fitting the clutch/lsd.

How does the td05 go on your levin evlgtz? What sort of rpm range does that come on full boost? Just interested to see what kind of range the turbo works in on your 4age.

It goes alright eh.

RPM levels for full boost dependent on load and gear of course but its pretty useable but not silly coming on boost all the time.

And like the HT18s, its pretty avg on only 10psi. Usually have it at 1 bar minimum and more when required.
