Radiator pipes needed / Top quality

Postby beeker » Mon Jan 23, 2006 7:53 pm

I'm out to replace the radiator top and bottom pipes in my 4agze/ae86.

Is there any real differences in products available ? Repco ones OK ??

Recommendations please.

I used to think that the orange and green tictacs gave you special powers. The orange ones would make you stronger and the green ones would make you faster. So i used to eat some green ones and run around my lounge as fast as i could, then eat the orange ones and try to pick up the sofa. I wish it were true!

Sorry, rubber hoses.

To give you some background, its for a targa car which could be said to be OEM / de-tuned spec (Stock 4agze with Stock ECU, with stock ae86 radiator etc, kept stock for reliability).
You often hear "I burts a hose" or alike, and I'm wanting to avoid such an event by proactively changing the older radiator hoses out. The question is, am i being paranoid, and if not, what brand/type of hose should i install. I'm assuming an OEM spec rubber hose would be ok, and i should avoid cheap knockoffs, and probably no need to go to silicon. So, where is the best place to get a reliable and robust rubber house.

Feel free to comment freely, i wont take offence.

If you run new hoses you will be fine, older hoses go hard and perish, with new hoses will be good as gold. As a rule I never run second hand hoses, especially not to save all of $5 or $10. Gates are good and most common places sell them.

New hoses from Repco are fine. Better that risking an old one.

if you want bling samco make replacement sets.

SAMCO silicone radiator hosese are specifically designed to withstand the extreme temperatures and corrosive nature of coolant and oils. SAMCO radiator hoses are designed to maintain maximum coolant flow while eliminating common radiator hose problems such as cracking and corroding. SAMCO radiator hoses are built to withstand extreme temeratures from -50 degrees Celcius to 200 degree Celcius. SAMCO silicone radiator hose kits are also specially designed for each application for a perfect fit.

Yeah they must be just as good, eh. I mean Ferraris get a whooping 30,000kms, or three years, out of a standard Gates belt, where as Toyotas need replacing after a measly 100,000km or seven years... hang on there's something not quite right with my logic...buggered if I can see what though
