mandrel Vs crushed

Ok so i have the choice agenst a mandrel or crushed exhaust.. Is there going to be that big of a difference on a 2ltr curren? its geting extractors fitted has a k&n and cold air box but later on i want to get more power out of it, but whats going to be worth it to me? im not trying to get the best time down the strip i just want a nice car that has some balls when i need it.

Ultimatly the mandrel is better, but in seat of pants kw power, you probably wont notice to be honnest.placebo pants may offer a different opinion. If you do have more plans for later though, and the extra cost does not bother you than go mandrel.

Basically exactly what AE92typeX said.But also if you are looking at future mods (turbo etc) then go with the mandrel but if not then I say stick with the crush bent,unless of corse you have the money for the mandrel...

I think the thing you should be looking at is the sizing...

i was going to go 2.5inch and i will be puting a 3s-gte engine in later... when i can find one...

2.5" mandrel bent would be recommended for a 3sgte, it will be major overkill for what you have now though and your car will be slower.

what would u recomend for the car now? if i was to put a system in for now it would be crushed

You want the system to be header back and about 2'-2.25. Just use mild steel, very cheap. Won't make much difference in power, i bet it'll feel faster because it'll be loud Main restriction is in the end muffler and expansion chambers, not as much in the cat so if you want to be all green keep the cat. 4AGZE one is very good, 2.5' inlets/outlets, could be the same on most others, havn't really compared.

I guess you could almost argue that some cats are less restrictive than some resonators. Cat just has slots, which would probably help straighten flow and has a similar flow area to the inlet. Some resonators cause lots of turbulance and have poor flow dynamics i.e expand the gas then force through a smaller hole without any gradient. I have heard exhaust shops saying a cat is only 1% of the total restriction. Also with a resonator the flow capacity decreases with RPM as the turbulance increases.

Stick a 2 and 1/4 inch on it. And make sure your tip aint too big...

Anything bigger and you may start losing backpressue on your current engine.

(Although, a 2 and 1/4 inch is too small for a 3sgte right?)

please don't use the word backpressure

2 1/4 will be too small for a 3sgte, although if it's relatively stock then a good mandrel bent one might not cause too much restriction

Nah its not backpressure, the gas expands too much and slows down causing restriction.

i wouldnt bother with the mandrel bent on ur current setup as ur probably not gonna have it long anyway so id go for just a press bent 2-2.5" but when u get the 3sgte go for a 2.75" - 3" mandrel bent and u will notice the difference as mandrel bent flows around 30% beter then press bent.
