torque settings for cv nut (ae92)

will be removing my cv joint tomorrow. does anyone know what torque the large nut needs to be torqued up to?
the one you see when the centre cap is removed from the wheel

Tight as f*ck. Just use a 1/2inch rattle gun if you have one, or a big bar. And put a little oil/grease on either side of the washer or on the surface of the nut if there is no washer, seen a few examples of noise from hubs and things which tunred out to be CV nuts not quite tight enough because of this

as tight as you can get, then a bit more. get someone to stand on brakes while you jump on the bar you-re using to tighten it. If you can get a torque setting, great, but its likely to require this method anyway!

as mine dont reach it because of the overhang from the shaft!

i use a 3/4" drive powerbar (about 1.5 mtrs long...) socket is just deep enough to do the job properly. and nice long powerbar for good leverage

Most places should be able to sell you something to suit. Deep 30 or 32mm impact socket. Some of them even say "Axle Nut" on the socket

Yeah, I use a 1" set. But really, there is a correct torque setting as its more than possible (i.e. very easy) to over tigthen them. My Aw11 manual has the setting for it...but I cant see it offhand. its not near the amount I could put on with my 1" sockets.

I'd agree with this also, seen it to be the case several times, especially if a press is not used to fit bearing.

we use rattle gun everyday at the workshop. Im pretty sure its strong enough, on low setting it torques nuts up to 95ft pounds

my ae82 manual says around 130-140 foot pounds. tight as %$#@ for big strong person may be 250 foot pounds, so use a torque wrench.

I did this the other day and the torque setting is ~140lbft.

The nut is 30mm, you should be able to use a normal 30mm socket to get the nut off and on again unless the car is a supercharged model, on them the bit which the nut screws onto is longer and you'll need to use a deep socket.
