which cyl is number one on a 5afe? closest to the belts/cambelt cover, or the distributor end?
currently the one closest to the dizzy is set as number one (as been since i owned it)... is this right? all info points to the front that ive seen...
cars got some issues, but i dont want to be pissing around with the dizzy if i dont have to...

edit - aftermarket cap labelled wrongly; however, a bit of pissing around has made it run soooo much better... crazy!

If you lined up the timing marks on the pully to TDC and took the dizzy cap off to see where the rotor was pointing it would be pointing either #4 or #1 cyl.
Im gessing this is what you have done? Turn the crank over one more time and the rotor will be on number 1. this is because the dizzy only turns half the speed of the crank shaft.
Or was it just the aftermarket cap that was labeled wrong?

nah, just the cap. I lined up the cams so it was on #1 TDC, and it was on the top of the compression stroke - #3 would be just starting on the inlet stroke, so it wasnt 180 degrees out.
I think some pissing around reseating relays + cleaning connections, along with a better timing helped a bit.
