gt-t boosting funny?

Postby cynakyl » Thu May 18, 2006 7:13 pm

Hey all, my 97 gt-t seems to be playing up a little but i've never had a turbo car before so i not too sure what it could be. i put a boost gauge in it a month ago and it always boosted to about 12.5 psi even under hard acceleration. i've since come to assume this is the factory limit. but in the last couple of weeks i've noticed that under hard acceleration it now goes up to 14-15 and then drops down to 12ish. anyone have any idea what could be causing this and if it's bad? ( i assume it is). also if it a problem how would i go about fixing it.

yeah its the cold weather

I have actually adjusted my MBC a bit - it was hitting 15 psi the other day - really dont want more than 13 from a CT26

no not the cold weather, more like a function of the boost solenoid or something similar

May pay to ask some of the turbo owners here. Depending on your engine, theres ALOT of things different (From what i understand) about maintaining your engine with a turbo compared to an N/A car.

Thats if you are completely unsure (I really dont have a clue how much you know  )

check your waste gate for gunk.
also check your turbo for shaft play.

get an electronic boost controller to keep that sucker in line.

more than about 15-17(I dont recommend more than 15) will lose power.
