4AFE PERFORMANCE MODIFICATIONS

Postby Hybridd » Tue May 23, 2006 11:49 am

Hi Everyone

I know this may sound strange to the 4AGE fans , but is there any cars in New Zealand with the 4AFE (1600cc) engine in it... :?: And if so , what performance modifications can be done to this motor... :?:

Thanks.. 8)

CIA, Exhaust, Extractors would be the easiest first options.

After that I think it's probably easier just slapping in a 4AGE unless you want to spend money on maybe some cams and ECU...

Yep, slap a turbo on it and see what happens  If I still had mine I would do that just to see what would happen.

Anyone know if a manifold from a 16v 4age would fit on a 4afe?

Hi guys...thanks to everyone for their replies....I just wanted to post this to see what you readers would say : There is a performance modification here in South Africa that allows the 4AFE to beat/run ahead of the Twincam 16 valve 4AGE and the 20 valve silvertop and some blacktops : It has the following mods :

Gasflowed and ported head
Bigger intake and exhaust valves
280 degree intake cam
276 exhaust cam
High rev spring kit
Head skimmed
38mm exhaust branch (extractor... )
50mm exhaust system
Dastek unichip
Adjustable Fuel Pressure Regulator
Stock Bottom End

P.S : this is a friends car and he revs to 8000rpm and there's no problem : He races often and wins quite well against most 20 valves... 8)

What yall New Zealanders think of this.... :?:

Just wanted to let yall know...Cheers..

its interesting, but the fact remains, that for the same money, you could get a 20v to run faster :)

well if you spent all the money that would have been poured it to that 4afe into a 4age...well that would be a different story...

Guys...You all right...If the money was spent on a performance derivative Toyota motor (4AGE) then most definately he would have more bang for buck...but here in South Africa there was many heated debate that the 4AFE is only a "economy engine" etc...So in order to prove a point to many a sceptic out there...my friend went out and done this mod to his 4AFE and he started busting left right and centre...I am sure modded 4AGE'S would give him though....This performance mod is offered by a specilist Toyota Tuner in Johannesburg (S.A) for the equivalent of 1500 NZ Dollars...I think...if my currency converter is right... Well all i'm saying is that its nice to know for us 4AFE owners that there's actually a little untapped power in that motor.... 8)

well comparing this list, and price of 2ZZGE or even half of the mods of 20V, I would be more inclined towards Yamaha design (GE).
Especially that 4AFE need that list just to beat stock 4AGE... I think to modify 4AFE second most cost effective way is to slap on the turbo and run say 7psi of boost on stock internals. The first most cost effective way would be to sell the car and buy a 4AG(Z)E or even 3SG(T)E powered vehicle, also it would have an advantage of having bigger brakes, and better every thing overall.
Of course you being located where you don't have access to these sort of vehicles (I thought they had 20v in SA)....

Hi Sergei...I understand what you are saying and I agree.... 8) ...We do have the 20 valve (Blacktop only) Silvertop available as an import...Many of my other Club Member friends have 20 valves and they are struggling to mod this motor (Apparently it comes near perfect from the factory [head] and other stuff)...Well they can't get camshafts etc...All they can do is maybe add ram tubes...with bonnet scoop etc...What mods do yall do with the 20 valve engine....Yes a 4AFE with bolt on Turbo sounds nice...Will the internals (stock) handle it... :?:

I guess because its a 4AFE and not 4AGE so parts are cheaper...maybe... :
