Help: Larger throttle body 4age bluetop

Postby crispy'86 » Sun May 28, 2006 8:41 pm

I heard in the grapevine some while ago that a v6 camry throttle body is considerably larger than 16v ones. Are there any that are a straight bolt up to the big port intake manifold, ?>? I don't want to spend too much money in machining my original just yet, just some helpful advice so i can search through my bits to compare what will work, aswell as raid the shelves at work.
All help appreciated :D

Have a read through this (its in FAQ under 4AGE section), in Part 3 he uses a 60mm supra one, but modifys the intake manifold and dyno's it. As sergei said, its probaly a waste of time on a stock motor, but im assuming this is for the worked motor for the race/club car??

VR4 is *apparantly* a bolt on fit, but requires a little bit of modding to get the TPS to work. Someone along the lines of Evil_Si would weld a new face on your throttle body piece of piss to bolt a larger toyota item up.

Guy that ran my fxgt previously had some cams and porting of the manifold to match enlkarged throttle body and he was using stock ecu. He had improved power from it, . This would be the start of develpoment for my engine i'll be running in my fxgt (same one as he raced) but going bit by bit as budget allows, also possibility of removing T-vis butterflies as increased air flow into the engine helps every little bit you can get.

Yip but don't forget other mods to increase airflow charecteristics.
And yes i've ran without the tvis but when you're racing the revs aren't normally that low down to feel it

I think you will find on a TVIS engine that it is the manifold that is the restriction. I havent had a smallport head and manifold on the flowbench as a comparison but I know the TVIS manifold isnt very nice
If it doesn't fit, force it.
If it breaks it needed replacing anyway!

i wopuld've thought the bigport would be better,
in saying that though the runners would pose a problem where they go to the sandwich plaste between the head and manifold where the tvis butterflies are

Have you considered a Honda B-series throttle body? smallest is 58mm (B16A1) and go up to 62mm (ITR, Accord Euro's).
I think there also might be a 64mm TB, but I'm not 100% sure.

Hven't thought about it but still searching for one that suits the bolt pattern. Bear in mind that bluetop 4age run 55mm Throttle body standard

Actually, it's a bit of a long shot, but the dude on Trademe who does Honda TB enlargening, might have some 58mm & 60mm butteryfly plates left over from all of the conversions he's done, might be worth asking him if he can have a look at your TB, enlargen your TB & bolt up a 58/60mm plate.
That way, there's no messing around with TPS or bolt patterns.

I can't remember the guy who does it, but I'm sure a quick search of Honda parts might give you some results.
