Postby Jexintag » Thu Oct 26, 2006 4:55 pm

Time to do an oil change and i cant decide which oil to go with. I have decided that i want natural/mineral. Yes i have searched here and on Rotahavik - cant seem to find anything.

What made you decide you want mineral? Just curious...

How old is your motor, specs etc.

Don't use synthetic! ALWAYS use mineral, rotaries premix the oil in with the fuel, and use it to internally lubricate the engine, so you need to have the right oil. I would recommend ringing around rotary builders, (not hard, just pick up a phone book or ask around) and ask what brand/W-rating they'd use.

Nah, synthetic doesnt burn cleanly, it tends to leave ashy deposits. I just used Protec in all of mine.

12a monster bridgeport.
one guy said go to repco and get castrol 15w40. My bf rekons to go to mazda and see what they recommend, but dont like the mazda people here and i was told by someone else to never use mazda oil in a rotary???
Someone else said that Motul was a good brand??
Yeah i think ringin round the engine builders and see what they reckon. It's just such a hard decision, everyone has a different opinion.

Decided on mineral because seems to be majority of what people recommend. Plus natural stuff always seems better than plastic to me anyway.

depends what was in it origanily if its been using mineral oil and you go synthetic they tend to start weeping around the sump gasket(mineral oil cases some seals to expand) so when ya go to syntheic they shrink back down a bit and cause leaks, i use to run castrol gtx in my rx7s4 gtr never had any trubbles,

is it ported, if it is i recommend ya use some 2 stroke in ya fuel, saves ya seals and keeps them alive longer

yip ported, i use moreys upper cylinder lube in my fuel.

Not sure whats in it now... possibly the castrol one from repco, as thats what the guy i bought it from recommended.
but i dont want to use the cheapest, would rather spend the extra and have my engine last longer.

there is an special rotary oil and yeah wouldnt ya know it almost only in japan, ill try and find out the name of it again i think one place in the north island sells it but its expensive shit, supose to be the only oil that burns completly in a rotary.....dont know if ya want to go to those extremes but yeah, make sure ya get the right api for your engine, especally if its an older one, can cause havik other wise(exsesive oil leaking past ya oil control rings, fouling ruff running etc

The Castrol R30 sounds good too, more for racing though.

Is it ok to use different oils at different times, as long as you do an oil change each time you use a different one???

Mobil 1 5W/50 - ditch the factory OMP. and premix the fuel with good 2 stroke oil.

Thanks, Have done, but am using Moreys upper cylinder lube. I know it says on the bottle "warning this is not a replacement for 2stroke oil" but seems a few others on Rotahavik use it also and have had no problems with it. Also the main rotary engine builders recommend it.
have you heard anything about it?
