Long term storage...What do I need to do?

Postby no_8wire » Mon Oct 30, 2006 7:23 pm

Well the MR2 will be parked up for about a year in April....what do I need to do to make sure it will turn over/run when I get back and want to run it?

Fill the bores with oil?

leave it in gear with the handbrake off
remove the battery incase it deicdes to start pissing acid everywhere. it'll be $&#$% by the time you get back anywho.

Id be inclined to remove the plugs, squirt a wee bit of oil (not much) down the bores and wind it over a few times with the plugs out, alhtough i doubt any corrosion's going to find it's way in anywho.

when you get back - new oils, coolant, filter, battery of course.
if you leave the handbrake off, the brakes wont be jammed on.....

wind it over with the coil lead/spark disabled til you get oil pressure
run it til hot
change the fluids
all good.
anythign else will rear it's head that nees doing fairly quickly, but it'll only be with brakes etc due to moisture in the fluid or sticking on or whatever...

don't forget to put the rego on hold or paid up until you get back, so as not to let the plates go dead

Maybe this should get stickied? I'm sure this has been covered before a few times.
