Funny sounds from front of car

Postby ollieboy » Tue Dec 12, 2006 10:17 pm

Today I noticed my car makes funny sounds when on full lock on rough ground. Its sort of a metal on metal graunching noise. Its probably been like that for a while, I only noticed it today because I rarely have wheels at full lock.

What should I check first? Its definitely coming from front.

I would check the tyres/inner guards/steering/suspension/brake callipers for rub marks first, but it sounds like one of those random things again, that are pretty difficult to diagnose on the net.. perhaps if you can't see anything obvious, I would take to the local garage and get them to check it out.

could also be loose wheel nuts

or are you trying to make your P/S do more than its capable of by going to hard on lock ???????

I've also been having a weird sound with my power steering on my ST185.

Previously the air control valve on my pump was busted and the engine would usually stall on full lock. Bought a second hand valve and slapped that on and now the steering seems good but I get this loud screech as I get to full lock. I'm quite sure that I bleed the P/S system so I can't figure out what is it. The screech is only for a moment and sound almost like a belt slipping but louder.

Is this in any way similar to your problem ollieboy?

There is a nut on the back of hub stops wheel turning to far put some grease were this nut hits on lower arm and no more noise.

and hiace vans.

if it isn't that, you must have worn bushes on your TCA or castor bar, allowing metal to metal contact.
